Choose the Right Protection

Carry both water and ABC dry-chemical extinguishers so operators have the correct protection for common harvest fire hazards.

Dry Corn. Hot Equipment. Real Risk.

Protect Your Crew During Harvest

Mature corn, husks and chaff can become extremely dry. When residue collects around an engine, exhaust, bearings or belts, one hot surface or mechanical problem can ignite material and spread fire rapidly through a field.

01

Clean the Combine Daily

Blow leaves, husks and chaff away from the engine compartment, exhaust, bearings, belts, chains, fuel tanks and recessed ledges.

02

Inspect Heat and Fluid Sources

Watch for overheated bearings, damaged belts and leaking fuel, oil or hydraulic lines. Check oil, coolant and air filters regularly.

03

Respect Dry, Windy Conditions

Low humidity and high winds increase the chance that a spark becomes a fast-moving field fire. Consider delaying work when conditions become extreme.

04

Prepare Before an Emergency

Keep extinguishers securely mounted and accessible. Inspect pins, seals and charge regularly; carry a phone and know the 911 address for each field.
